The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED was created to:
Define "green building" by establishing a common standard of measurement.
Recognize environmental leadership in the building industry.
Stimulate green competition.
Raise consumer awareness of green building benefits.
Transform the building market.
Energy and atmosphere credit required the building to comply with ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1-1999 or local energy codes if it is equivalent to, or more stringent than, ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1-1999 standard.
By reducing design energy cost compared to the energy cost budget for energy system regulated by ASHRAE standard 90.1-1999. Building may earn up to 10 credit point when design energy cost reduced 60% of the design budget in the new building and 50% in the existing building.
